A bit about us...
Ever had one of those moments where you want to say “no” but when you open your mouth to speak “yes” blurts out? Well that’s what happened to us, we were asked if we would represent a company at the York Food Fayre in June 2008 and as we only knew a little about coeliacs disease through Marks mother, who has suffered for many years, plus as we both work full time we meant to say “no we’re sorry but”, when “yes” came out! The York Fayre came and successfully went; we rolled on and went to Darlington after being dropped in at the deep end by doing a presentation for the Bradford Coeliac Society AGM.
In the October of 2008 we were representing another company and for some bizarre reason we thought, ”why don’t we do this for us and have somewhere for you in this area which appears to have nothing?” so we decided to try a market stall. Brighouse was chosen, it’s central to Halifax, Huddersfield and Bradford, without advertising we started, slowly but surely people began to come and some have became regulars, the number is slowly growing but up to now all by word of mouth. With help from the members of the Huddersfield and Calderdale Coeliac Society who have been very kind in supporting us we have gained in confidence and knowledge and want to learn more by talking and more importantly, listening to you, we concentrate on a core range of products, some things are that little bit different others are the same as supplied by supermarkets but better! Cooking for coeliacs has never been a problem and on Christmas day 2008 we catered for one coeliac, two vegetarians, one not sure and nine “wheat eaters”. After this we decided that we could pass on recipes and information to others so we started to put a treat of some kind for people to try nearly every Saturday; this is proving popular (even with the “wheat eaters especially the other stall holders!”) to a point where we have baked cakes to order and accepted donations from others who wish to take anything up to half a cake away!!
Our aim is to provide a service for you but without you we can’t! We have a nine year old customer who, one Saturday morning on her way to see us to stock up, turned to her mum and said “they will be there mum, they wont give up because of the credit crunch?” well, no we won’t, this young lady and other faithful customers are the reason we turn up every Saturday morning and are the reason for the website.
